Just saw a clip on Instagram of a Arab brother meeting an Indonesian brother during an interaction of Qur’an and Hifdh. The former says to the latter than the responsibility and accountability for him will much greater on the day of judgement than for the latter due to his native comprehension and understanding of the Arabic language, and that despite this, he still did not act upon what he knew. Whilst the latter at least perhaps has an excuse that he did not know the language fluently.
A reminder to myself before anyone else — learning the sacred sciences is an important and blessed endeavour. However, we must never forget that it brings a whole new level of responsibility. Every new piece of vocab we learn, or every time you hear a new Tafsir of an ayah. You have now entered a stage from which you can never return. And more evidence piling up either for you, or against you.
As the Beloved ﷺ said:
“…and the Qur’an is a proof either for you or against you. Every person starts his day as a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or causing its ruin.”
And Allah ﷻ knows best.
